Meditation

More and more we are hearing about meditation and it’s use to help with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and more.  Still, there seems to be some resistance to the practice.  Where does this resistance come from?  It may be from fear of the unknown, cultural biases, and or judgments one isn’t (or is) aware of.

Of most importance is your goal!  Is it to become healthy?  Is it to find calm and peace in your life?  Is it to find your happiness?  Is it to heal from a broken marriage, troubled relationship, or difficulties with children?  I could go on with a list of questions related to your own personal wellbeing (but I won’t).  If you answered yes to any of these questions, then meditation can help.

Mediation has been used for centuries in all sorts of cultures and religions.  It is simply an act of quieting the mind.  There is no right or wrong to it.  You can practice for 3 minutes or for an hour.  Both of which helpful.  Take 3-5 deep breaths daily and see how that helps with your day, then try 3 minutes of quiet – that’s right just 3 minutes of quiet.  It is a gift you can give to yourself that will go a long way.    Consult with a professional for some guidance around implementing this practice to support your goals for increased wellbeing.  It’s worth it!
